Ampicillin resistance in Haemophilus influenzae
نویسنده
چکیده
Fourteen out of 150 (9.3%) consecutive strains of Haemophilus influenzae isolated on culture of sputum in the Bacteriology Department, Belfast City Hospital, during 1982/83 were found to be ampicillin-resistant (beta-lactamase-producing). Susceptibility testing to other antibiotics of these ampicillin-resistant strains showed that cefuroxime, cefotaxime, gentamicin, and amoxycillin with clavulanic acid were reliable alternatives. Other useful alternatives included tetracycline, trimethoprim and co-trimoxazole. Erythromycin was of limited usefulness.

Prevalence of Antibiotic Resistance of Haemophilus Influenzae in Iran- A Meta-Analysis
Introduction: Based on the World Health Organization reports, infections caused by ampicillin-resistant Haemophilus influenzae strains are a major threat to public health and need urgent therapy with new antibiotics. Given the lack of a previous comprehensive study on the prevalence of the antibiotic resistance of H. influenzae in Iran, this systematic review and meta-analysis was perform...

Bacterial infections may cause disease and death. Infants and children are often subject to bacterial infections. Antimicrobials kill bacteria protecting the infected patients andreducing the risk of morbidity and mortality caused by bacteria. The antibiotics may lose their antibacterial activity when they become resistant to a bacteria. The resistance to different antibiotics in a bacteria is ...
متن کاملIodometric detection of Haemophilus influenzae beta-lactamase: rapid presumptive test for ampicillin resistance.
Strains of Haemophilus influenzae type b sporadically isolated from clinical specimens are ampicillin resistant due to production of a beta-lactamase. This enzyme which inactivates ampicillin and penicillin G is not produced by ampicillin-susceptible strains. Various characteristics of beta-lactamase production and ampicillin resistance of three H. influenzae type b isolates were investigated. ...

Results: 1538 isolates from respiratory specimens of 349 CF patients over 15 years were investigated. Annual prevalence increased significantly for both bacteria, being more pronounced for H. parainfluenzae. Average percentage of resistant cultures increased by 46% (H. Influenzae) and 61% (H. Parainfluenzae). For H. influenzae, resistance to ampicillin was 34.4%, co-trimoxazole 21.4%. For H. pa...
